According to a new study from the Indiana University, the ill effect of sitting too long can be reversed by a simple habit- have a 5 minute walk break. The complete result of this study was published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise.
Among the ill effect of long sitting are heart disease, poor circulation of blood to the legs and joint pain due to blood being pooled in the legs and not flowing to the heart. According to studies about sitting, an hour of sitting can impair the blood flow of up to 50%. It is recommended then that for every hour of sitting, do a 5 minute treadmill exercise or any walking exercise to offset the effect of sitting.
Walking is strongly recommended in breaking the strains of long sitting because it improves the blood flow in the legs according to Saurabh Thosar, the research' lead author.
